A System Dynamics Model to Evaluate Emissions in A Combined Cycle Power Plant
Authors
Abstract:
Environment and the need to protect and care for it, is one of the main concerns of industrial development in todaychr('39')s society; and air pollution is one of the most noticeable and tangible causes of it. The increasingly growth of the industry has led to the production and diffusion of gaseous pollutants into the air and among them; thermal power plants are one of the most important sources of emissions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases. This study uses a system dynamics approach and Vensim software to simulate components and processes affecting the conditions of pollutants released into the air through a combined cycle power plant based on measured actual data. In addition, analyzing different scenarios, has determined the type of process, optimum fuel and the maximum possible capacity upgrade of the combined cycle power plants considering the maximum allowable level of pollutant emissions in the atmosphere with using different efficiency enhancing techniques. Altogether, the operation modes of gas turbine (Premix , Diffusion), the type of fuel used in gas turbine (Natural gas , Gasoil), the use or non-use of fogging system in the air intake of gas turbine, as well as water or steam injection in the gas turbine burner have been identified and analyzed as the main factors and variables affecting pollutant emissions in the combined cycle power plant.

full textModeling of a Geothermal Cycle Condenser in a Combined Diesel Power Cycle: Case Study of 42 MW Diesel Power Plant in Moghan and Ardabil
This paper presents the results of a research into the feasibility of recovering waste heat and determining design parameters of a recovery boiler for a set of medium-speed diesel generators with a capacity of 7 MW (the nominal capacity of all units is 42 MW, which would be a study on a unit). And is used to generate electricity. The main purpose of this study is to design a thermal waste recov...
full textJob Stress among Workers Exposed to Extremely Low Frequency Electric and Magnetic Fields in a Combined Cycle Power Plant
Introduction: Exposure to the low frequency electric and magnetic fields (ELF-EMF) is very common in workers occupied in the combined cycle power plant during work shifts The present study aimed to measure ELF-EMF flux density among shift and non-shift workers, determine job stress among workers and office workers, and identify major factors associated with job stress in the studied groups. M...
full textModelling of a Power System in a Combined Cycle Power Plant
Simulators for power plants can be used for many different purposes, like training for operators or for adjusting control systems, where the main objective is to perform a realistic behaviour for different operating conditions of the power plant. Due to an increased amount of variable energy sources in the power system, the role of the operators has become more important. It can therefore be ve...
full textTechnical Analysis of Conversion of A Steam Power Plant to Combined Cycle, Using Two Types of Heavy Duty Gas Turbines
Due to long life of steam power plants in Iran, transformation of steam cycles to combined cycles is under consideration. Bandar-Abbas steam power plant with capacity of 320 MW has been analyzed in this work. This old plant is located near the harbor city of Bandar-Abbas at southern Iran. Method of exergy analysis is used to study the current and the repowered systems. Optimum state of the repo...
